KEY MILESTONES IN THE HISTORY OF THE BUILDA PRICE GROUP ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Establishment of original Builda Price Business (job pricing). The original pricing component of the current Builda Price software was developed by Alan McQuarters through his company Builda Price Limited.
At the time Alan was a partner in a Quantity Surveying company. The Builda Price project was initially a side-line hobby for Alan. Alan initially saw the need to develop a pricing tool for builders given a number of builders got into financial trouble in 2003 and 2004 (when the building sector went soft) as a result of poor pricing processes.
Initially, builders would contract the pricing of jobs to Alan under the brand “The Quote Centre”. Alan would use the software to deliver this service.
In late 2011, the pricing software was gaining traction (and even won a
competition for the best Business Idea run by an angel investment group
(a bit like the “Dragons Den”).
Merging of Darren’s and Alan’s businesses. Through a mutual industry customer contact Alan and Darren were introduced to each other. It became apparent to both Darren and Alan that their 2 respective programs were complimentary and that it would be better to merge the operations into one combined program.
The benefits of merging were seen as follows:
• Allow full integration of the 2 systems
• Capture synergies in the customer base
• Be able to offer full coverage to all segments of the residential
building market
• Create better distribution channels to market
• Enable better use of joint development resources
In September 2016 a new entity was formed (Builda Price (2016) Ltd), which was essentially a joint venture between Darren and Alan. The new entity acquired all the IP, customers, etc from the two respective businesses and all trading for the two components of the software have been through the new company ever since. Both Darren and Alan have continued to be key drivers behind the development and expansion of the business.
Establishment of Builda Admin. It was difficult to retain customers
(builders), even though Builda Price was filling a need in the marketplace.
It was ascertained that the key reason for this retention problem was that
builders were struggling to find the time to be trained and implement the
software systems. Accordingly, Builda Admin was established to provide
support to builders along with additional services.
One of the first service offering was IPS (Invoice Processing System).
This uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and is charged based on
volume monthly. A series of initiatives were launched including webinar
training and more recently the mentoring program. Every new builder that
joins Builda Price is appointed a mentor from the team of licensees who
provide one on one training.
New Customer Success Manager joins the team at Head Office in Albany.
Development of the Project Management module starts in earnest
Wait to see what developments are to come.
In late 2009, the software was subsequently sold direct to builders (under
the brand “The Builders Programme”) and in 2010 the software became
web based.
Brand “Builda Price” established. In March 2016, the original pricing
software developed by Alan was rebranded as “Builda Price”.
Development of Job tracking software Independently of Alan, Darren Wallbank, through his business Out There Business Solutions Limited started developing software for builders to track their costs. NB: Out There Business Solutions Ltd had been providing accounting and admin support services to builders and saw the need for this solution.
Acquisition of The Building Software Co. incorporating BuildMaster and
